Give Back Project

For my give-back project, I made a PowerPoint presentation that you can download. This give back project was part of my course SOCI 4730 Global Social Change with Dr. Jiyoung Lee-An, PhD. In this course, students learn about the effects of global neo-colonialism, colonization, and imperialism. We did a final project in this course and my topic was about about intergenerational trauma and healing within the South Sudanese community. It relates to global competence in terms of the knowledge part of this multi-dimensional skill. Knowledge can help with global issues and intercultural situations. I think after exploring this powerpoint people will understand more about first-generation South Sudanese Canadians. I have come to realize that many people walk around with broken hearts. Many people have been tied to residential school, war, genocide, and displacement and are living within our community. We need to discuss things that have happened to us and sharing stories can help with our healing.

“If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”― Lilla Watson.
